Brief Summary

La traducción audiovisual no deja de crecer como campo de estudio, de interés y de trabajo, y cada vez son más los profesionales de traducción con especialización en diferentes áreas que tienen que enfrentarse a la traducción de material audiovisual. A diario, se traducen desde videos corporativos hasta conferencias, cursos, congresos e incluso carreras a distancia que se subtitulan, doblan y hacen accesibles para que se adapten a las necesidades del público actual. Todo esto sin mencionar, por supuesto, a la traducción para cine, televisión y streaming que está en su pico histórico y genera oportunidades reales de trabajo para los profesionales de la traducción.
Ante este escenario, resulta fundamental para todos los profesionales de la traducción acercarse a las diferentes modalidades, en particular al subtitulado, para poder ofrecer sus servicios a todos los posibles clientes que, sin importar cuál sea la especialización, necesitarán la traducción de material audiovisual en el corto y el mediano plazo.
Esta presentación tiene como objetivo principal focalizarse en el subtitulado científico-técnico, dentro de las diferentes modalidades de esta especialización, con ejemplos concretos de cómo alcanzar un nivel profesional alto y cuáles son las herramientas que se usan, así como describir cuáles son los materiales que los clientes solicitan a los especialistas del rubro.
Los participantes comprenderán la relevancia de esta modalidad de trabajo y conocerán las diferentes maneras de abrir sus puertas a un mercado profesional que ya hace tiempo ha dejado de ser solo de entretenimiento y cuenta con material corporativo, médico, legal, financiero y técnico-científico de todo tipo para trabajar y sumar una especialidad rentable a nuestra cartera de servicios.

Damián Santilli is a sworn EnglishSpanish translator and a certified international Spanish copy editor and proofreader. He has obtained a Master's Degree in Applied Linguistics from Ateneum University (Poland) and ISTRAD, and written a thesis on the influence of Mexicanisms in Neutral Spanish. He has +17 years of experience as a professional and teacher of translation technology, audiovisual translation, software localization, and technical translation.

He's a professor of translation technology for the BA in Translation (English) at Lenguas Vivas "Juan Ramón Fernández" and of Translation Technology and Terminology and Documentation and at the Master’s Degree in Translation and Interpreting of the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA). At UBA, he is the director of the MA in Translation Technology, Localization and Audiovisual Translation and professor of Translation Environment Tools II and Subtitling.

Since 2009, he offered more than 100 workshops and dissertations on audiovisual translation, translation technology and Spanish proofreading to more than 3,000 students in different cities of Argentina (Buenos Aires, Chaco, Córdoba, Corrientes, Mendoza, Río Negro, Mar del Plata, Santa Fe) and the world (Germany, Peru, Spain, United States and Uruguay). In 2018, he was part of the team that created the Netflix's Hermes test and managed the Latin-American version of the exam and he is currently member of the AVT Pro Certification team.

He's co-author and main coordinator of the "Manual de informática aplicada a la traducción", the first comprehensive book written on translation technology in Spanish.

He's the President of the Colegio de Traductores Públicos de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (CTPCBA) since 2007, the Unión de Correctores de España (UniCo), the European Association for Studies in Screen Translation (ESIST) and The Subtitlers' Association (SUBTLE), and has created different platforms to promote translation, such as TAV Argentina, Entredichos, The Translation Show, HispaTAV, and En sincronía.
