This course is designed for those looking to specialize in Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (SDH) and Closed Captioning (CC). Aimed at beginners, it covers key concepts of accessibility, focusing on the specific needs of viewers who rely on SDH and CC to fully engage with media content. It encompasses fundamental terms and concepts, industry standard SDH and captioning guidelines, timing specs and processes, conversion between file formats and conforming processes.
Students will learn how to create and describe sound effects, character (speaker) IDs, how to caption music and lyrics, while also refining the skill to distinguish between what needs to be included and what can be omitted in the subtitles. By the end of the training, students will be able to create open and closed captions, subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, with a focus on practical skills for conforming existing files.
